Inflatable Curtain Oil Boom

Inflatable curtain-type oil boom, 150 mm float, 0.40 m skirt, 20 m sections

Robust inflatable curtain boom with a very stable floating position that limits the spread and drift of oil and other surface contamination on water, for rapid mobile use or permanent stationary installation.

Properties

  • quick to deploy
  • very stable floating position
  • can be handled by two persons
  • fully functional as soon as it is deployed
  • reusable
  • well suited for exercises
  • long service life
  • for immediate mobile use and for permanent stationary use
  • inflation: fill at 2.5 bar until the hose is firm, then reduce to 0.5 bar standard pressure

Construction

Float
Flexible fabric hose, 150 mm diameter, inflated with air (0.3 to 2 bar as required); the float is also the tension member
Skirt
Draught approx. 0.40 m; resistant to oil, seawater and weathering; holding tabs on both sides for working lines
Ballast
Eyelets every 0.50 m in the reinforced lower hem of the skirt, for 1.60 kg ballast weights
Couplings
Special light-metal couplings at both ends with air plug valve, vent screw and ring eyelets with snap hooks
Snap hooks
Hooked into each other, they form the tensile connection between lengths; tensile strength up to 800 kg
Joints
Sealed with skirts laid over staples and tied on both sides with a plastic rope
Air filling connection
Pressure reducer and 20 m transparent plastic hose with plug nipple; not needed for every length, order separately

Applications

  • Inland waters: standing and very slow flowing waters (lakes, harbours, canals, impoundments)
  • Inland waters: faster flowing waters with current speeds up to 1 m/s
  • Coastal waters: usable in waters with wave action thanks to high flexibility and tensile strength; the boom adapts to smaller waves so there is little relative movement between wave and boom
  • Damming boom in slow flowing waters
  • Collecting boom for use with boats
  • Enclosing boom (containment ring)
  • Deflection boom in flowing waters

Colours

  • yellow

Options

  • Carry bag for 20 m boom, 0.75 x 0.75 x 0.30 m = 0.2 m³
  • Carry bag with 10 weights, 0.30 x 0.40 x 0.14 m = 0.02 m³
  • Air connection with pressure reducer and vent key
  • Shorter lengths on request

Technical data

ParameterValue
Standard length20.00 m; maximum length 30.00 m; shorter lengths on request
Weight20.00 m complete with couplings: approx. 45.00 kg
Ballast weightsCarry bag with 10 weights of 1.60 kg each (40 weights are standard equipment for a 20.00 m length)
Tensile strength800.00 kg
Draughtup to 0.40 m
Freeboardapprox. 15 cm (height above water); the boom follows wave movements
Air filling0.3 to 2.0 bar depending on current and type of use; standard air pressure 0.5 bar
Air filling connectionWith pressure reducer for 200 bar (alternatively 300 bar) compressed air cylinders and 20.00 m plastic hose (compressed air cylinder supplied by the user)
Filling timeapprox. 2.5 to 3 minutes with a compressed air cylinder
Time requiredapprox. 20 minutes to deploy a 20.00 m length
Snap hooksIndividual lengths can easily be connected to obtain the required length on site
CleaningAfter use, clean with clean water; heavy soiling can be removed with a high-pressure cleaner or steam jet and standard cleaning agents
StorageStore only when dry, in dry and ventilated rooms
MaintenanceNo special maintenance required; clean and oil the air plug valves and vent screws after each use or every 12 months; the yellow skirt can be replaced if badly damaged
